I joined Betterment in 2019 with a strong interest in personal finance and a curiousity for working at a young humanist financial tech company. As part of Betterment's aquisition team, we researched what personal finance meant to our diverse prospective customers. We explored the best way to convince new users that a robo-advisor which offers ETF portfolios and fiduciary advice would be their next best life decision.
Accessibility is a priority at Betterment. As a designer, I initiated the arduous task of standardizing styles, components and type treatments to be a11y compliant. I worked closely with the engineering team focused on this initiative to push these updates live.

Problem: The biggest dropoff point in the funnel is between a prospect customer launching the app and entering their email address.
Goal: Deliver an engaging & interactive first launch experience that will keep prospect's attention while we deliver a focused overview of each product offering and the value it provides.
Enagage: Focus on using patterns from commonly used apps that users are familiar with and find delightful.
Problem: The biggest dropoff point in the funnel is between a prospect customer launching the app and entering their email address.

These Principle prototypes show how a user could swipe up on each product card to view more details on the offering. This interaction can quickly be dismissed when the user wants to continue browsing.
The concept of a Story-style onboarding allowed each offering to be broken down into bite size pieces.
A primary goal for the app was to surface the new free episodes each week for users without a cable subscription. I created a browsing experience for long form content.
Betterment was in need of meeting accessibility requirements in their design system. What started as a 10% project turned into a full blown effort to get Betterment's Design and Doc sites up to speed with industry leaders like Shopify's Polaris.
